In Romania, consumption of natural gas fell sharply during 2022. Natural gas consumption in Q3 2022 was 30% below its level from Q3 2021 according to preliminary data reported by Eurostat.
Consumption of natural gas from Q3 2022 was also 10% below the level of domestic production according to my seasonally adjusted data.
When assuming a normal winter and that consumption will remain unchanged at recent very depressed levels during Q4 2022 and Q1 2023, then Romania has already enough natural gas in storage to pass the winter even if imports stop at once.
Some problems in covering natural consumption might not be excluded in the very cold days as extracting natural gas from storage is facing capacity constraints. However, I think this would be a manageable situation ultimately.
